Ilizarov Products
The Ilizarov frame takes its name from the former Soviet surgeon Prof. Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov. Professor Ilizarov started his career treating a number of patients in western Siberia, who had returned from World War II having sustained fractures. During the 1950s, Ilizarov began experimenting with external fixation designs; in 1954, he successfully treated his first patient with a tibial non-union. By his designed treatments, the patients achieved excellent results and the healing time reduced significantly.
The currently available Ilizarov apparatus is a type of external fixation used in orthopedic surgeries with different purposes; including to lengthen or reshape limb bones; to treat complex and/or open bone fractures; and to treat cases of infected nonunions of bones that are not amenable with other techniques.
Ilizarov apparatus is a very powerful tool that may also be used to stabilize fractures, regrow lost bone or correct deformities in the length rotation or angles of bones.
